To Tape or Not to Tape

So many people have asked us about the taping on Sedona's ears. Being a first time boxer mom with Dakota I had not idea that you could tape their ears to give them a natural set or fall. So she has flying ears. With Montana her ears automatically set perfectly and again I had no idea about taping. With Sedona she has the flying nun ears, meaning they are back and out instead of forward and close to her head with a crease in the middle. You can set a puppy's ears up until the teething has stopped. To remedy this you have to tape the ears. there are a couple of different way:

The second is what we did with Sedona as her ears were more stubborn and it worked really well. Be sure to watch the video a few times to get it right, I did not use the lighter fluid, I just used medical tape.

Things you will need: Patience, medical tape and taping skills, lol. Watch each video a few times before you attempt to tape your puppy's ears because they all don't have a lot of patience.

THE BEGINNING....

I have been around dogs all my life having raised National Champion Arabian horses with my family where we lived on 55 acres in Connecticut and had five to six dogs running around constantly, from Newfoundlands to German Shepherds and Blood Hounds to Labradors. I had been thinking about starting the Dakota Dog Company, named after my beloved Boxer Dakota for several years but just never got it off the ground. In 2011 she became very sick and has almost died on me four times over three years as she had an auto immune disease called Thrombocytopenia (basically her immune system kills off her white blood cells). It's was a battle but she gotten better and stronger every day and once again taught me a valuable lesson, 'tomorrow is not guaranteed and appreciate what you have today.' 

I also want to introduce Montana, Kota's 'Lil Sister', who was a Christmas gift from my Mom and arrived via special truck delivery on Christmas Eve 2012 all the way from Kansas! We have added to our pack with the addition of Sedona from Boxers of Palo Mesa in California, she arrived on November 5th, 2014!

Our beautiful Dakota left us on December 19th, 2016, she is an Angel watching over us every day and I collect your pennies pretty girl and please know how much we miss you!

 And now in 2020 we are joined by Sequoia, also from Boxers of Palo Mesa, our little one that we waited 3 1 /2 to come into our lives.
